Princess Atotoztli in balcony - Princesa Atotoztli by tlacuilopilo Princess Atotoztli in balcony - Princesa Atotoztli by tlacuilopilo
Princess Atotoztli. Acrylic on canvas.

A portrait I painted of what I think Princess Atotoztli might have looked like. Princess Atototzin of the Toltec Kingdom of Culhuacan, in Ancient Mexico, the Anahuac. According to ancient and colonial chronicles, she was famous for her beauty, to the degree that Lord Yacanex wanted to marry her, but he was prohibited to do so. He retaliated provoking a revolt and general war amongst the established nations and kingdoms of Ancient Mexico. Who was this woman that when his loved one was prohibited to marry broke havoc in the known world in anger and desperation? How did that women that led people to doomed love looked like?

No to use in any way without my permission.

Now a story by me:

War was the only solution to get her love back. She was the most beautiful flower of all the known world. But her father had arranged her to be married with prince Huetzin from the Chichimecs lords. My flower, which my heart once was summoned upon, was to belong to a fool whose only goal in life was to be the descendant of Xolotl the Great. This grew my hate for the establishment, for all things civilized. I am Yacanex, I was your love.

I remember your eyes, your face, your tasteful lips. Oh your tasteful lips. Love once gazed upon us. Xochiquetzalli let the torrent of our passion inflate our veins. The love I experienced for you was like never a human or an animal had ever palpitated in the heart. I recall you staring at me as if the world was gone for good, and all that stood up was the fortress of our caring love.

But that night is now gone. Times changed for ill. Foul players at the heights of power have forced the people downstairs to rise with full passion. Oh the passion! My passion was that indeed, but mixed with my own passion for you. Both objectives have become soluble by an all-out confrontational war. Both my quest for justice for my people and my heart led me no choice to wage combat against the establishment.

Now I march with my army at the long road to Culhuacan. I walk alongside my old faithful friend Ocotox. I go bound to my gorgeous love. We resolved to fight in a world gone ill. The people from below were stirred to rise in a fight against civilization. I go forth with my two convictions to liberate my peoples’ minds but to anchor our hearts, my love. I will utterly set blaze and break havoc just to interwine our lives. No, Huetzin does not deserve you. Lordly I place dibs, not on you my love, yet on a future were you and me are one. I claim for a day when your graceful being is joined with me. I call for the right to possess at least a moment in the presence of your beauty. No! Not for a moment with you, only one eternity will suffice.

As I enter the city I can see you far away. There you stand with a glorious beauty trying to see from your balcony the racket. We march through the streets of Colhuacan. We we are near the palace I can see you still look confused. You glow with elegance like the Moon, and shine with radiance as the Sun. Oh your beauty extends beyond our weak comprehension and further than the worldly brilliance. Yes I can see you. I am just below your balcony, we have arrived to your father’s palace. We arrived to take you my love, with word or war. Now I shall make my stand in the name of love, in the name of beauty. Will this army convince your stubborn father? Will this convince to relinquish your heart to me? My love, I can see you, but can you? Suddenly I felt the brave flames of your eyes look down to me. We both stared to each other locked in passion. I am Yacanex, I have come for you Atotoztli.

Princesa Atotoztli.

Yo soy Yacanex, yo fui tu amor.

Recuerdo tus ojos, tu rostro, tus sabrosos labios. Oh!

No!

Yo soy Yacanex, he venido por ti Atotoztli.
